Today’s post isn’t so much about soccer as it is about the idea of not giving up.
As you will see below, the Peruvian goalkeeper was clearly beat by the opposing players quick footwork. As the keeper scrambles to make up lost ground, he doesn’t let his brief mistake hinder his ability to turn tragedy into triumph. He speeds back and makes not one but two incredible saves to deny what looked to be a sure goal.
The game ended in a 3-3 tie.
Few things cannot be overcome when you believe in your abilities and refuse to let past mistakes determine your future.
This Sunday’s Golden Globes was a huge success. Everyone was filled with the excitement that preceded the award show with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosting. And the two lovely ladies did not let us down. The Golden Globes are one of the most exciting award shows. You get to watch your favorite movie and TV stars get drunker and funnier as the awards night goes on.
Buzzfeed outlined the 20 most surprising moments of the night. And there were some great moments to choose from. Tina and Amy’s opening monologue, Bill Murray’s presence, Bill Clinton’s speech, and of course, watching Glenn Close ‘pretending’ to be wasted. Some of the major winners last night included Lena Dunham winning two awards the night of the premiere of her show’s second season, Adele for Best Song and Jennifer Lawrence for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical (and in her acceptance speech “I Beat Meryl!”).

The show this weekend definitely got me excited for the Academy Awards, coming up on February 24 – though it will be difficult for the Oscars to beat out last nights great show.
Even though the New Year has come and gone, I can’t help but feel that the year 2013 feels incredibly surreal – like something from the future. Most likely it is denial that the 2000’s have ended, the nineties were two decades ago, and most of all, that my youth is escaping me. While watching an episode of Buffy this weekend, I realized it started in 1996 – which just doesn’t feel like it is that long ago. But it is.
Wendy’s has changed it’s logo? S Club is reuniting? Lizzy Maguire had a baby? But what feels like the craziest of all is that there are now teenagers in this world that were born after Y2K happened!
At least we can count on some things staying the same.
And 15 years later…
Here are some quotes that help me deal with the fact that we’re all aging:
You can only be young once. But you can always be immature. – Dave Barry
You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream. – C.S. Lewis
It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are. – E.E. Cummings
You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough. – Mae West
The movie Les Misérables was released during the holidays and proved that Christmas isn’t always the season of joy. Based off the West End musical, Les Mis is famous for its tragic setting and sometimes depressing tone. Set during 19th Century France and featuring a revolution, Les Mis is a film about struggle and hardship. The movie is sure to get many people crying in the cinema but here’s a couple for whom it was all a bit too much.
Les Mis is already attracting an enormous crowd at the box office and so to help anyone getting caught up in the melancholy of it all we have some excellent quotes. We hope they will help but if you are going to see Les Misérables we also advise taking a bottle of water to combat dehydration!
No use crying over spilled milk. By this time tomorrow, it will become free yogurt. – Stephen Colbert
Sadness is but a wall between two gardens. – Kahlil Gibran
Everyone makes mistakes but sometimes you’re not the one to blame. Smart-phones have a very special way of not being so smart. Auto-correct has been the source of much embarrassment and no small amount of hilarity.
We’ve all been victims of text related mistakes and here are some quotes to ensure you that it’s all okay:
“A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.” – George Bernard Shaw
“Do not brood over your past mistakes and failures as this will only fill your mind with grief, regret and depression. Do not repeat them in the future.” – Swami Sivananda
“Computers have enabled people to make more mistakes faster than almost any invention in history, with the possible exception of tequila and hand guns.” – Mitch Ratcliffe
“A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.” – Douglas Adams
In an ideal world, everyone would just get along. Unfortunately, real life doesn’t seem to work that way. There are some people that no matter how hard you try, no matter what they do, you just can’t like them.
Sometimes you have legitimate reasons for hating this person. Other times, all you can do are find flimsy excuses to justify your dislike, to the point where even their haircut seems to have done you some personal wrong. But no matter what reason you have for fantasizing about their demise, here are a few quotes to remind you that sometimes you’re better off to bury the hatchet before someone really gets hurt.
If you want to make peace, you don’t talk to your friends. You talk to your enemies. – Moshe Dayan
Always forgive your enemies, nothing annoys them so much. – Oscar Wilde
The first to apologize is the bravest. The first to forgive is the strongest. The first to forget is the happiest. – The Weeknd
The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong. – Mahatma Gandhi
You know a viral video has made it big time if it is featured (a couple days late) on network news. That’s just what happened when the “Montreal Eagle” video hit the world wide web, but what Matt Lauer and his minions didn’t know was that the video is probably a fake.
Take a look at the video here:
And take a look at this video debunking its veracity:
It can be tough to tell when what you’re looking it is the real deal.
1) A good indicator of a phony YouTube clip is if the uploader has only shared the one video. It was probably uploaded specifically to cause a commotion online, so don’t trust it.
2) When it comes to quotes, many of them sound too good to be true. That’s because they usually are! Be sure to cross-reference that thing Mark Twain said about Tumblr with interviews, news stories, and anything the author has written. Also, that Simon Cowell quote about loving everyone and that we’re all special talented flowers might not be by him. If the quote is so outside the personality of the author, maybe think twice.
3) Be cautious about twitter quotes, too. For every real celebrity twitter account, there’s a dozen fake ones by the same name. Just because “Drake” is in the twitter handle does not mean it’s really his bologna sandwich he’s tweeting about. It’s probably a fake.
4) Finding sweet content on Tumblr is fun but it’s often pretty though to find the source. Unless the user specifically mentions that the post is his or her work, it’s best to assume it, at some point, came from someone else.
Finding cool stuff online is so much cooler when it’s well, real (but what real even MEAN anymore? That’s another blog post (thesis) for another time). This short guideline should help you find what’s the real deal, and what’s there to make you another internet sucker.
We put a lot of trust in social media. The truth is we have to in order to stay connected and #relevant in 2012. Even if we think about the potential dangers and repercussions that are involved with what we put out onto the web, there is really very little we can do. Our choices are either: completely alienate ourselves from all social media and the internet, rendering ourselves disconnected from most of life, or we have to accept that as a society we are owned by the social media we use.
Matt Buchanan wrote in this Buzzfeed article, “If you are not paying for it, you’re not the customer; you’re the product being sold.” Instagram will change its privacy policy on January 16 to allow the sale of all your information (including photos, names, likes, etc.) to advertisers and such. But there really isn’t any reason to be super enraged or surprised by this. Facebook already does this and most people have no problem telling Facebook everything about themselves.
At Quotesqr, we have a selection of quotes about media; both funny ones and others that will make you start thinking about how you use social media and impact it has on your life.
Quotesqr is all about bite-sized sayings. The quotes we post on our website are intentionally concise to fit beautifully onto our squares. But in reality, there are so many other quotes that are just a little bit too long for us to use. Here are some of our favorite ones:
The Holstee Manifesto
Three guys in New York founded the Holstee Manifesto after the recession in 2009. They wanted to create a lifestyle within their company as they dove into design and production. After a few months, they wrote down exactly what they wanted from life and how to create a company that, ‘breathes that passion into the world everyday. It was a reminder of what we lived for. The result became known as the Holstee Manifesto.’ [via Holstee]
This is the message they came up with:
This is the video that goes with it. It has been viewed more than 60 million times.
